It’s heating up and the summer harvest is already coming in! How are we able to provide produce year round? A farmer’s job is to figure out how to meet their crops’ requirements, from seed to harvest. Our Produce Buyer’s job is to keep our shelves stocked with fresh veggies. We buy from local farms. In season, we have enough stock from local farmers to make much of the fresh food in our deli using local vegetables, like cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes and potatoes, etc. For things not available regionally, we bring in fresh organic produce from Albert’s Organics.
Stay tuned for more on the way the season flows in the Moab area. Farming is a complicated endeavor everywhere, and farmers on the Colorado Plateau have some extra variables to contend with to make sure our region continues producing its own food, today and for the future. Without steady rain, farming in the high altitude desert is a true logistical feat! More on that next week.
