Join us on Tuesday, July 9th in supporting our neighbors, families, and friends on Walnut Lane by shopping at Moonflower on July 9th. Every second Tuesday of the month, Moonflower Co-op donates 5% of the day’s proceeds to an organization doing important work in our community, and this month we will be donating to the the Walnut Lane Donation Fund.
In April, residents at the Walnut Lane Trailer Park were told that they needed to leave their homes, as the city would be terminating their leases by the end of June due to losing coverage from its insurance provider. Many of these families did not and do not have another place to go. Although the city was able to provide financial support to most residents to help with rehousing efforts, there are individuals who still fell through the cracks and are in need of assistance.
Any money donated from Moonflower would be given as direct aid to residents who did not receive money from the city of Moab at the end of their lease term. As these residents try to get back on their feet, these funds will help with housing, utilities, and other costs.
We will continue to distribute funds by partnering with local non-profit service providers, including the Moab Valley Multicultural Center, Seekhaven, Moab Solutions, and community health care providers.
To date, we have raised over $20,000, which has already been provided directly to former Walnut Lane residents, many of whom have been able to secure new housing for themselves and their families, or use this community funding help to find emergency short-term housing. Help us give an extra and much-needed boost to these vulnerable families and help keep them in our community with a new safe, stable place to live.
