We are proud to announce this spring’s recipient of our Seeds to Start Grant program: the Clay Artisans of Moab!

“CLAM is a Moab-based, loosely organized group of mostly introverted ceramists who come together to bring their craft to the community.” They also give back to the community by hosting their annual Soup Bowl Fundraiser and Ceramics Silent Auction event, a fundraiser of their own that benefits a local nonprofit of their choosing with a food-driven focus. This popular event draws over 350 people in the Moab community and raises thousands of dollars!

CLAM will use the funds awarded from the Seeds to Start Grant for purchasing equipment and utensils to serve soups and other food items to attendees, as well as more sustainable, reusable advertising materials. This will help them drastically reduce the time they’ll have to spend hunting down these supplies, thus affording them more time to create more bowls for the event.

This iteration of the Seeds to Start Grant is unique in that it will actually benefit two organizations, since CLAM will use their funds to make their fundraising event even more successful. This year, the SBF beneficiary is the Moab Free Health Clinic. From CLAM: “Funds raised [at the SBF] will be used to organize a diabetes education class in both English and Spanish, accompanied by cooking classes. Remaining funds will be used to purchase food vouchers for attendees so they can take what they learned and use the voucher to buy healthy food options!”

We are glad to support this group, and indirectly, the Moab Free Health Clinic, to promote greater community holistic health, wellness, and greater access to healthy, sustainable foods.

The bi-annual Seeds to Start Grant program funds high-impact community projects focused on expanding community food security, promoting environmental justice, and/or directly benefiting underrepresented communities in need.
