SUMMARY:Basics of Essential Oils Demo & Class
DESCRIPTION:Join artisan essential oil distiller Eric Scott Bresselsmith of Boulder\, Utah-based company House of Aromatics for an experience of aromatic wonder and mystery. Eric will talk about indications and practical applications of essential oils as well the connection of essential oils to alchemy\, chemistry\, and the innate spirit/intelligence of the plants’ nature available through essential oil use. \nOther topics Eric will be covering include: \n\nThe importance of essential oils produced from regional plants and trees for “community immunity.” Essential oils will be passed around for imbibing the aromatics.\n“Neat” use (do’s and don’ts)\, dilution\, and diffusion.\nThe difference between therapeutic\, cosmetic\, and industrial grade essential oils and the importance of knowing the difference and why.\nThe origins of artificial and natural fragrance/flavor.\nThe permeation of synthetic petroleum distillates throughout current culture.\nThe difference between essential oils\, hydrosols\, oil infusions\, teas\, and tinctures.\nThe fundamentals of the distillation process.\n\nEric will also be at Moonflower from 12-4pm doing a floor demo with his essential oils and other House of Aromatics products. Stop by and say hi! \nHouse of Aromatics is a small artisan essential oil distillery located in the high desert mountains of southern Utah and operated as a one-man business by Eric Scott Bresselsmith. The primary products are steam-distilled essential oils of conifers and brushes that grow right here where we live: among them pines\, firs\, junipers\, spruce\, snakeweed\, sage\, and rabbitbrush. Eric began self studying herbalism in 1989\, was an organic farmer through the 90s\, and has been distilling small batches of wild crafted essential oils since 2008. A fun and experiential moment in time.

SUMMARY:5% Day for Grand Area Mentoring
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, October 14th to support Grand Area Mentoring! \n\nGrand Area Mentoring matches caring adults with promising children. Participants meet weekly to build strong relationships based on trust and shared activities like hiking\, arts and crafts\, and talking about life. Mentored youth earn higher grades\, report being happier\, and get along better with others. \nDuring the 2023-2024 school year\, Grand Area Mentoring provided 79 of the district’s highest risk youth with weekly one-on-one mentoring. \n\n85% of mentored youth got in less trouble at school\n100% of parents agree their children are happier\n100% of teachers agree that mentoring supports vulnerable youth who exhibit antisocial behavior\, have few friendships\, demonstrate low commitment to school\, earn poor grades\, and/or live in a troubled home\n\nGrand Area Mentoring is focused on supporting families and our community. Longer mentoring matches lead to better outcomes. Special events and trainings for mentors and mentees in the last year have included: an Arches National Park interpretive hike\, an off-road tour\, cookie making at the Youth Garden Project\, mentor training with a career specialist\, a Moab Golf Course outing\, Moab Museum events\, Sand Flats campfire and exploration\, Raven’s Rim zip line tours\, a Climb Moab Gym outing\, and advanced mentor trainings such as Trauma-Informed Mentoring Part 1\, 2\, and 3\, Facilitating Attuned Interactions Part 1 and 2\, Sexual Abuse Awareness\, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Primer\, and more. \nGrand Area Mentoring will use the funds from the 5% Day for general operations. The program’s budget is lean\, and its fundraising commitment represents only about 10% of expenses\, which means 90% of funds facilitate direct service. Specifically\, money raised during the 5% day will cover: the recruitment\, screening\, and training of mentors; training of students; ongoing support of matches and family outreach; evaluation and continuous improvement; community-based programming; and integration within our schools. Grant funds support staff\, mentor curriculum needs\, mentoring activity materials\, event supplies\, advanced trainer stipends\, and communication with stakeholders. \nEvery second Tuesday of the month\, Moonflower Co-op donates 5% of the day’s proceeds to an organization doing important work in our community. If you are interested in signing your organization up for a 5% Day\, please fill out this form.

SUMMARY:Root-to-Crown Chakra Yoga & Essential Oil Roller Series #5: Throat Chakra
DESCRIPTION:Join Moonflower Co-op and Crystal Blanks of Mindful Movement Moab for the second to last class in a monthly educational series exploring each of the seven chakras! \n\nCrystal will guide you through an introduction to each chakra\, its attributes\, and the signs of both balance and imbalance. You’ll learn chakra-specific mudras and simple practices to restore harmony to this energy center. Together\, we’ll also create custom essential oil rollers and enjoy a yin yoga practice designed to support and nurture the chakra\, integrating their healing properties into your daily routine for a deeper connection with yourself and others. \nThis 5th class of the series will focus on the throat chakra (Vishuddha). Located at the throat\, the throat chakra governs communication and self-expression. A balanced throat chakra helps you express your truth with ease. We will practice a short yoga sequence to strengthen your voice and self-expression\, and then make an essential oil roller to balance the throat chakra. \nFree and open to all. All materials and yoga mats will be provided. The class will take place in the Dance Room at the Moab Arts and Recreation Center\, 111 E. 100 N. \n RSVPing is not required\, but appreciated to help us prepare ahead of time:
