SUMMARY:February ArtWalk with Julia Buckwalter
DESCRIPTION:The first Moab ArtWalk of 2025 will take place on Friday\, February 7th from 5-8pm at various locations around downtown Moab. (ArtWalks for 2025 will be on first Fridays of the month once per quarter.) \nStop by the Datura Deli and meet our featured local artist for the month\, Julia Buckwalter. \nArtist Julia Buckwalter grew up under the Wasatch Mountains in Northern Utah\, falling in love with the red rock of Arches and Canyonlands National Parks early on and vowing to live in Moab as an adult so that she could paint the landscape.  Before she settled in Moab\, Julia studied Painting at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and also Pennsylvania State University in State College\, Pennsylvania.  She also visited and worked two seasons at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico during college\, finding constant inspiration in Georgia O’Keeffe’s responses to her own “homeland”. When not working from her home studio\, Julia is often working as a buyer at Back of Beyond Books\, curating the adult book department.  She’ll often pack a book on long hikes\, runs or bike rides to read by the river or under a shady tree\, emotional inspiration and visual recognition to carry into the studio later.  Landscapes and skies are the focus of her passion\, and she has been painting our desert backyard now for the past 13 years\, spending one year awarded as Artist in the Park with the Canyonlands Natural History Association. \nCome see what you think at the first ArtWalk of the year! Julia will be present to chat with about her work and we will be providing light refreshments. \nVisit all locations and get your ArtWalk postcard stamped and turn it in to Moab Arts for a chance to win a prize!

SUMMARY:Round Up at the Register for Rim to Rim Restoration
DESCRIPTION:For the first two weeks of February\, we will be hosting a Round Up at the Register campaign to benefit Rim to Rim Restoration! When you shop at Moonflower during these two weeks\, you will have the option of rounding up your purchase total to the nearest dollar (or more)\, and 100% of your change will go directly to Rim to Rim! \nFor over two decades Rim to Rim Restoration has worked to regenerate and repair damaged landscapes on the Upper Colorado Plateau with a focus on riparian areas and native plant development. Rim to Rim Restoration’s mission is to foster awareness and motivation for restoration and responsibility in the Moab area\, and to reestablish native vegetation for the benefit of wildlife\, recreation\, and sustainable watersheds.\n \n100% of the funds from the Round Up campaign will go directly to Rim to Rim. They will use it support their work in Mill and Pack Creeks\, where they are regenerating ecosystems to reduce fire and flood risk and engaging the community about these threats. Rim to Rim has recently launched a major new fire and flood mitigation effort along Mill and Pack Creeks\, where the nonprofit has worked for over 15 years. Donations will support this work\, which was motivated by the spate of recent floods and fires along the creeks.\nLearn more about our Round Up at the Register program here.

SUMMARY:5% Day for Mindfulness in Education
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, December 10th to support Mindfulness in Education! \n\nOur mission is “is to strengthen youth’s learning capacity\, mental wellbeing\, empathy\, and ability to thrive and contribute by teaching yoga and mindfulness skills to students.” We offer yoga and mindfulness classes at both the high school and the elementary school. Our focus in the community is to help our students learn how to better cope with stress and anxiety and to hopefully teach them skills that they can carry with them throughout their lives. These funds will only be used to compensate our instructors. \nAll administration comes from volunteers. We are a small non-profit and any funding we receive goes directly to the teachers who are dedicated and impassioned about teaching these important skills. We are currently working on a simple website that is being done by a volunteer. \nWe are also working with school administrators as we would like to be able to expand our offerings to the middle school in the future. Currently we are working at keeping our current programs funded for the coming school year. \nStudies have shown us the importance of good mental health. We have the students submit evaluations at the end of each trimester. It is apparent from these evaluations how much they are taking away from these classes. We will continue working to keep going to further benefit as many students as we can! \n\n\n\n\n\nEvery second Tuesday of the month\, Moonflower Co-op donates 5% of the day’s proceeds to an organization doing important work in our community. If you are interested in signing your organization up for a 5% Day\, please fill out this form.
