SUMMARY:Everything Potatoes!
DESCRIPTION:Come discover why you should think more about the potatoes you are consuming. There are serious issues with how we are conventionally growing potatoes that have far reaching implications for our health. How did we get into this mess and what is the path forward? \nCastle Valley Farms is dedicated to growing the most nutrient dense\, chemical free food possible. Tommy Mayer will give a presentation on the farm’s journey to potatoes\, a bit of science about the relationship between specific gravity (density) and the culinary use of particular varieties\, and some interesting health benefits found in the more colorful ones. He will also bring a Dutch oven potato roast for demonstration and sampling. Potato seed will be available for purchase. \nThis class is free and open to the public. \nAbout Tommy \nCurrently the baker at Castle Valley Farms\, Tommy has worn many hats over the past 9 years… math and science teacher\, farm manager\, all while husband to Felicia and father to Grace and Llia. The whole family has thoroughly enjoyed living in this neck of the woods and lives most of their lives outdoors.

SUMMARY:5% Day for Wellness Collective
DESCRIPTION:Every second Tuesday of the month\, Moonflower Co-op donates 5% of the day’s proceeds to an organization doing important work in our community. \nJoin us on Tuesday\, November 14th to support the Wellness Collective! \n\nWellness Collective is dedicated to promoting the well-being of the Moab community. We believe in ensuring equitable access to health and wellness programs and resources\, striving to make a positive impact on the lives of our community members. Our programs are designed with a strong emphasis on providing essential mental health support. \nOur vision is to create a thriving and healthy community where each individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We are continuously working towards this vision by adapting our services to meet the evolving needs of the Moab community. \nWellness Collective plans to use funding from the 5% Day to initiate and expand two new long-term wellness programs: \n\nExpanded Health Hikes: In collaboration with the Canyonland Field Institute\, we have ambitious plans to expand on the Health Hikes program. This initiative combines the benefits of outdoor therapy with a comprehensive mental health and wellness component. By leveraging the breathtaking natural landscapes of Moab\, we aim to provide a unique and therapeutic experience for community members\, fostering physical and mental well-being. This expansion will allow us to reach a broader audience and offer a holistic approach to health and wellness.\nTherapeutic Art Program: Recognizing the healing power of art\, we are excited to introduce a therapeutic art program for the Moab community. This program will provide a creative outlet for individuals seeking to address emotional\, psychological\, and spiritual needs through artistic expression. Art therapy has been shown to be a transformative tool for personal growth and healing\, and we believe it will be a valuable addition to our offerings. This program will be open to individuals of all ages and backgrounds\, further diversifying our services and addressing a broader spectrum of community needs.\n\nIf you are interested in signing your organization up for a 5% Day\, please fill out this form.

SUMMARY:The Invitation to Connect: Yoga\, Trauma\, & Discovery Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:Our free weekly yoga workshop series taught by Trista Winder and Angela Houghton continues this month at the MARC! Come dressed for yoga and don’t forget your journal. These workshops will focus on discovering the power of your own voice and intuition through the healing power of ritual. Step into a yoga practice that remembers the goddess Saraswati\, the flowing one. Explore the healing power of community and creativity through lecture\, yoga\, journaling\, meditation\, and mantra. \nEach month of this series (September-December) will center on a different theme linked to a different Hindu god or goddess\, beginning with a lecture the first week\, taught by Trista\, followed by three weeks of yoga classes integrating what you learn in the lecture\, taught by Angela. Each class will build on something from the last\, but also be accessible for people just dropping in. \nClasses will be held at the MARC** (111 E 100 N)\, Mondays from 5:30-7pm. Free and open to all. The first Monday lectures of each month’s series will also be offered on Zoom. Please email tristawinder[at]gmail.com for the Zoom link. \nTrista and Angela invite you to your practice: We’ll use the body as a tool to explore and connect to your inner world. You are welcome if you’ve never practiced before. You are welcome if you have been practicing for years. This offering is an opportunity to play with yoga in a heart-centered practice where we will guide you through moving your body\, connecting to your breath\, and being still with intention. \nOn this journey\, we’ll use yogic philosophy and stories alongside movement and meditation. The stories can invite humor and curiosity as we explore the modern human experience with grace. Within this spiritual container\, we’ll explore trauma and the undigested hurts. The invitation is in how we create a personal practice that speaks to the needs of our soul. Recovery\, yoga\, connection: This is a practice that invites the practitioner to wholeness\, one breath at a time. \nWorkshop Schedule:\nOctober 9th (lecture)\, 16th\, 23rd\, 30th:\nYoga\, Trauma\, & Discovery: Step Into the Flow of Your Heart (Saraswati)\n**October 9th & 16th: MARC Dance Room\n**October 23rd: MARC Stage Room\n**October 30th class: MARC patio (outside; please dress for the weather) \nPlease check this page for updated monthly themes and any other location changes. \nAbout the Instructors:\nTrista Winder\, LMT; E-RYT 500; Trauma Informed Life Coach\nTrista has been teaching yoga for fourteen years\, discovering her passion for yoga early on as a teenager in high school. She fell in love with the detail of body mechanics\, postural health\, and the heart centered philosophy. Trista is also a deep tissue massage therapist and her experience working with students and clients in a healing realm led her to study developmental and complex trauma. Passionate about recovery and healing\, she is currently enrolled in a Master’s program for Marriage and Family Therapy\, and hopes to help people connect with their deepest capacity for living and healing. Learn more at her website at yogautah.com. \nAngela Houghton\nAngela began practicing yoga in earnest in the early 2000s. She took an immersion with Sianna Sherman in 2005 and completed a 200-hour certification with Amy Ippoliti in 2007. In 2006\, she completed a 40-hour Yoga Therapeutics Training. More recently\, her primary yoga teachers are Jeanie Manchester\, Noah Maze\, and Adam Ballenger. \nAngela gravitates towards an alignment-based practice with plenty of room for philosophy and play. She enjoys connecting spirituality to the modern human experience. Angela invites curiosity and humility into her practice to continue to grow as a student and teacher.
