SUMMARY:Round Up at the Register for the Boulder Outdoor Survival School
DESCRIPTION:This month’s Round Up at the Register campaign will be held from June 17-30th and will benefit the Boulder Outdoor Survival School in Boulder\, Utah! For a two-week period\, approximately once a quarter\, we offer the opportunity for owners and customers to “round up” their purchases to the next whole dollar to raise funds for a local non-profit’s project or special purchase. \nYour change supports The Boulder Outdoor Survival School (BOSS)\, a non-profit outdoor survival school in Boulder\, Utah that began in 1968. BOSS is dedicated to the instruction and preservation of traditional living skills and the development of people through experiences within the natural world. \nBOSS offers 7-\, 14-\, and 28-day field courses that are simulated survival expeditions\, as well as skill-specific courses like Wilderness First Responder\, Hunter/Gatherer\, and Navigation. These courses “get you disconnected from the screen(s) and reconnected to being a human.” While a BOSS course is not the only way to do this\, these field courses are unique because they are simulated survival experiences that explicitly challenge the participant’s spirit/mind/body in ways other outdoor courses often avoid. Students typically gain a deeper understanding of self and group reliance and what matters most in life\, as well as insight\, growth\, renewal\, and discovery through their interactions with the land and their fellow expedition-mates. \nA blurb from BOSS: \n“If you have ever felt like you were ill-prepared and/or curious how you would fare in a survival situation\, a BOSS field course might be for you. Taking a course with the Boulder Outdoor Survival School will provide you with unique skills that are applicable in any outdoor context and everyday life. It is more than just challenging yourself. It is about discovering insights into who you are through pushing yourself further than you would on your own. The knowledge of the past and how to work with what the Land offers is as applicable today as it has ever been. We hope to take ya out on the trail with not much more than the clothes on your back\, a knife\, and a water bottle.” \nIf your organization is interested in participating in Round Up at the Register\, please apply here or ask for an application at our office.

RRR relies on a small staff and collaborations with local land managers and government agencies\, other nonprofits and local residents. Our mission is to foster awareness and motivation for restoration and responsibility in the Moab area to reestablish native vegetation for the benefit of wildlife recreation and sustainable watersheds. Open houses twice a year at the Mayberry Native Plant Propagation Center are a great way to get acquainted with our projects. \nEvery second Tuesday of the month\, Moonflower Co-op donates 5% of the day’s proceeds to an organization doing important work in our community. If you are interested in signing your organization up for a 5% Day\, please fill out this form.

SUMMARY:Round Up at the Register for Underdog Animal Rescue & Rehab
DESCRIPTION:Our first Round Up at the Register campaign of 2021 will run from February 1st-14th and will benefit Underdog Animal Rescue & Rehab! For a two-week period\, approximately once a quarter\, we offer the opportunity for owners and customers to “round up” their purchases to the next whole dollar to raise funds for a local non-profit’s project or special purchase. \nUnderdog’s mission is to rescue and rehabilitate companion animals from the Four Corners reservations of the American Southwest through vet care\, spay/neuter\, and adoption services\, while supporting Native Americans in the care of their animals. \nFunds raised from the Round Up campaign will be used locally for vet care\, medicines\, food\, transportation\, and animal care. On the reservations\, Underdog works to combat the stray and at-large companion animal population by providing no-cost vaccination clinics and subsidizing spay/neuter services for the native population. Each spay/neuter clinic costs Underdog $5000 to contract with a mobile spay and neuter unit and provide lodging\, food\, and gas to volunteers. During the clinics\, Underdog staff and volunteers spay and neuter 125 dogs and cats and provide hundreds of vaccinations to the animals! \nIf your organization is interested in participating in Round Up at the Register\, please apply here or ask for an application at our office.

SUMMARY:Round Up at the Register for the Moab COVID-19 Housing Relief Fund
DESCRIPTION:From June 17-30th\, we will be hosting a Round Up at the Register campaign to benefit the Moab COVID-19 Housing Relief Fund! \nWhen you shop at Moonflower during these two weeks\, you will have the opportunity to “round up” your purchases to the next whole dollar. 100% of your change will go directly to this fund\, which is intended to provide emergency housing assistance to individuals and families in the Moab area who are experiencing financial hardship due to the coronavirus crisis. This fund has been set up by the Moab Valley Multicultural Center and the Housing Authority of Southeastern Utah. \nMany of us have received a stimulus check or unemployment benefits due to being laid off of work because of COVID-19\, but many of our neighbors have not. While many landlords have deferred rent during the pandemic\, deferred payments will eventually come due and families still have to eat. Housing is a right that all humans should be able to have access to without the fear of removal. Studies show that homelessness can be a traumatic event that influences a person’s symptoms of mental illness. The Moab community has generously donated thousands of dollars to the Deferment Fund to help struggling families maintain their housing. \nThe Housing Authority’s first disbursement on May 7\, 2020 was able to provide a rent check for 13 families. They hope to be able to provide this much\, if not more\, help for all families that apply for the following months until things can return to some sense of normalcy. With the burden of rent alleviated for these families\, even if only for a month\, the stress of facing eviction will be reduced as well. They will be able to focus on using their money for purchasing healthy food and other necessities. Priority for the disbursement of the Fund will be given to those who have limited or no access to other types of relief. The money is given directly to the landlord. \nYou may have noticed…\nWe have been hosting more Round Up campaigns this year than our normal quarterly schedule. We are aiming to assist our many local non-profits who may be struggling to continue operating during the coronavirus pandemic\, and to aid special projects such as this housing relief fund. Just as a reminder\, when you round up your purchase total\, your change goes straight to the organizations. We don’t take anything\, we just facilitate the donation and make it easy for many people donating small amounts to make a big difference! \nJoin us in supporting our fellow community members who are struggling to meet basic needs. \nIf your organization is interested in participating in Round Up at the Register\, please apply here or ask for an application at our office.
