SUMMARY:The Invitation to Connect: Yoga\, Trauma\, & Recovery Workshop Series: October 2nd
DESCRIPTION:This weekly fall workshop series will focus on addiction recovery\, trauma\, and connecting to your inner world through yogic philosophy\, stories\, movement\, and meditation. Each month of the series will center on a different theme linked to a different Hindu god or goddess\, beginning with a lecture the first week\, taught by Trista Winder\, followed by three weeks of yoga classes integrating what you learn in the lecture\, taught by Angela Houghton. Each class will build on something from the last\, but also be accessible for people just dropping in. \nClasses will be held in the MARC Stage Room**\, Mondays from 5:30-7pm. Free and open to all. The Monday lectures will also be offered on Zoom. Please email tristawinder[at]gmail.com for the Zoom link. \n**Location subject to change. October 2 and 9 classes will be held in the MARC Dance Room. Please check this page for the most up to date information. \nTrista and Angela invite you to your practice: We’ll use the body as a tool to explore and connect to your inner world. You are welcome if you’ve never practiced before. You are welcome if you have been practicing for years. This offering is an opportunity to play with yoga in a heart-centered practice where we will guide you through moving your body\, connecting to your breath\, and being still with intention. \nOn this journey\, we’ll use yogic philosophy and stories alongside movement and meditation. The stories can invite humor and curiosity as we explore the modern human experience with grace. Within this spiritual container\, we’ll explore trauma and the undigested hurts. The invitation is in how we create a personal practice that speaks to the needs of our soul. Recovery\, yoga\, connection: This is a practice that invites the practitioner to wholeness\, one breath at a time. \nTentative Workshop Schedule:\nSeptember 11th (lecture)\, 18th\, 25th\, October 2nd:\nYoga\, Trauma\, & Addiction & Igniting Your Own Path (Ganesha)\n**October 2nd class will be in the MARC Dance Room \nOctober 9th (lecture)\, 16th\, 23rd\, 30th:\nYoga\, Trauma\, & Addiction & Igniting Intelligence and Creativity (Saraswati)\n**October 2nd class will be in the MARC Dance Room\n**October 16th and 30th classes will be on the MARC patio (outside; please dress for the weather) \nNovember 6th (lecture)\, 13th\, 20th\, 27th:\nYoga\, Trauma\, & Addiction & Igniting Abundant Energy (Lakshmi) \nDecember 4th (lecture)\, 11th:\nYoga\, Trauma\, & Addiction & Igniting Devotion & Discovery (Hanuman) \nAbout the Instructors:\nTrista Winder\, LMT; E-RYT 500; Trauma Informed Life Coach\nTrista has been teaching yoga for fourteen years\, discovering her passion for yoga early on as a teenager in high school. She fell in love with the detail of body mechanics\, postural health\, and the heart centered philosophy. Trista is also a deep tissue massage therapist and her experience working with students and clients in a healing realm led her to study developmental and complex trauma. Passionate about recovery and healing\, she is currently enrolled in a Master’s program for Marriage and Family Therapy\, and hopes to help people connect with their deepest capacity for living and healing. Learn more at her website at yogautah.com. \nAngela Houghton\nAngela began practicing yoga in earnest in the early 2000s. She took an immersion with Sianna Sherman in 2005 and completed a 200-hour certification with Amy Ippoliti in 2007. In 2006\, she completed a 40-hour Yoga Therapeutics Training. More recently\, her primary yoga teachers are Jeanie Manchester\, Noah Maze\, and Adam Ballenger. \nAngela gravitates towards an alignment-based practice with plenty of room for philosophy and play. SUMMARY:Introduction to Holistic Nutrition: Inflammation
DESCRIPTION:Do you feel exhausted\, down in the dumps\, irritable\, experience painful swelling or redness\, chronic allergies\, or migraines? It could be inflammation.\n\n\n \n\n\nNations of people walk around every day on fire from the inside out thanks to inflammation. This class will introduce the the perpetrators of terrifying constitution and ubiquitous presence that turn the warmth of digestion and circulation into raging wildfires\, and the heroes that tame the scalding heat by pushing out toxic burdens from the body.\n\n\n \n\n\nThis class will be taught by Faye Mays and Viska Arbogast. Faye is a Certified Master of Holistic Psychology from the American Institute of Holistic Health & Healing. They will teach what causes inflammation\, what helps to support the body experiencing inflammation\, and how you can integrate changes in your diet and lifestyle to fight inflammation. They will also share recipes\, resources\, and samples of anti-inflammatory foods.\n\n\n \n\n\nStart the new year by learning how you can fight with the heroes to restore optimal health!\n\n\n\n**At the request of the instructors\, we ask that attendees of this class arrive as fragrance-free as possible. Thank you for your cooperation!**\n\n\n\n—\n\n\n \n\n\nAbout Faye and Viska:\n\n\n \n\n\nViska first became aware of the impact of food on health in 2009\, when his girlfriend suffered from fructose malabsorption due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors.  Observing the presence of toxicants in everyday products and food also guided Viska to embrace whole foods and release toxicants from personal use. His love of ancient spices and foods drove him to learn Asiatic cuisine and the healing properties of herbs and spices. He noticed his own health improve and wants to share what he has learned with others. His experience as an all-ages tutor in Japanese\, computer programming\, and mathematics gives him a broad and precise set of instructional skills.\n\n\n \n\n\nFaye took a college course entitled Biology and the Citizen in 2005 that brought inflammation and toxicants to her attention. The reality of the consequences of such factors sank in more deeply during her first pregnancy\, wherein she experienced more expressed symptoms and increased sensitivity to inflammatory agents.\n\n\n \n\n\nFaye spent time researching\, producing nourishing herbal infusions\, and practicing food as medicine to combat her symptoms and disease which\, as she discovered\, related to chemical injury. Choosing to study the Ayurvedic traditions\, eventually she established contact with a Brahman living in India who provided great knowledge and wisdom about the healing properties of herbs\, spices\, and human physiology.\n\n\n \n\n\nFaye first worked as a teacher at the age of eight\, leading groups of kindergartners for her mother\, a teacher. Since then\, Faye has been a guest instructor for art\, music\, and English\, a college level teaching assistant\, and mother. She spends a great deal of her personal time researching and educating others on various health-related subjects because she believes everyone deserves to feel better.

SUMMARY:“Grocery Story: The Promise of Food Co-ops in the Age of Grocery Giants” Book Tour Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Grocery stores exert considerable influence over the global food supply and in the communities we live. How do the largest grocers today maintain their grip on food makers\, communities\, and eaters? \nAs part of his North American book release tour\, hear author Jon Steinman offer up a preview of his new book\, “Grocery Story: The Promise of Food Co-ops in the Age of Grocery Giants\,” including disturbing trends emerging among the dominant grocers. \nJon’s new book makes a compelling case for how food co-ops\, as alternatives to corporate grocery giants\, are spurring the creation of delicious local food economies and stronger communities\, while changing the global food system for the better. \nAbout Jon:\nJon Steinman was the producer and host of the internationally syndicated radio show and podcast Deconstructing Dinner and of Deconstructing Dinner: Reconstructing our Food System–a television and web series currently streaming online. Jon was an elected director from 2006-2016 of the Kootenay Co-op–Canada’s largest independent retail consumer food co-op\, serving as Board President from 2014-2016. He lives in Nelson\, British Columbia. \nPraise for Grocery Story: “A great read! Full of energy and eyes-wide-open hope. In an era of extreme economic concentration\, Jon Steinman awakens us to elements of an arising democratic economy\, hidden in plain sight. Grocery Story is\, above all\, an empowering tale we need now more than ever.” -Frances Moore Lappé\, author of Diet for a Small Planet\, and\, most recently coauthor of Daring Democracy \nFor more information\, please contact outreach@moonflower.coop.
